Artists in Mali dye and paint hand-woven cotton fabrics with vegetable dyes extracted from the leaves and bark of special African trees. They also use mud containing iron oxide from the Niger River (mud cloth). The colours are durable. Our Bogolan products can be washed by hand or conveniently in the washing machine. Please note the following instructions:

• Wash your product by hand or in the machine on the delicate cycle (wool) at a temperature of up to 30 °Celsius.
• Use a gentle mild detergent. Rinse well after washing. Avoid fabric softener, starch, bleach, etc.
• Spin in the washing machine at up to 800 rpm.
• Dry in the air and also in the sun, not in the tumble dryer.
• Iron at low temperature. We do not recommend steaming. This will preserve the structure of the hand-woven fabrics.
• No dry cleaning.

For painting the carpets and runners, the above-mentioned vegetable dyes mud from the Niger River are also used. The colours are durable. Our Bogolan products are hard-wearing and not afraid of water. This also applies to the woven-in raffia. You can wash the products by hand. Please note the following instructions:

• Wash by hand at a temperature of up to 30 °Celsius. Use a gentle mild detergent and rinse well. Do not use fabric softener, starch, bleach, etc.
• Roll up the product and gently squeeze out the water by hand, do not spin.
• Air dry and also dry in the sun, not in the tumble dryer. Ironing and steaming are not necessary.
• The carpets can be vacuumed with a standard floor hoover. To avoid damaging the raffia fringes, guide the hoover from the centre of the carpet outwards and vacuum in the direction of the fringes. The carpets are very light, so set the suction power in the lower segment of the hoover.
• Attention to safety: In order to preserve the originality of this craftsmanship, we have deliberately refrained from coating the rugs. Therefore, it is recommended to underlay these carpets with an anti-slip mat before use.
• No dry cleaning.
